Facilities Management will be providing an open forum to provide details about all upcoming campus construction projects. The open forum will be held in ITE Room 102 (Lecture Hall 8) from 12-12:50 p.m., Wednesday, October 30, 2013.
Due to the variety and nature of the projects, they will be of interest to the majority of staff, faculty and students on campus. The projects to be discussed will affect the entire campus population, and include:
Parking Expansion – This project will construct approximately 400 additional surface parking spaces. The new lot will be located between Walker Apartments and the recreation field on Hilltop Circle.
The New Campus Gateway – This project will alter the intersections at UMBC Blvd., Research Park Drive, and Hilltop Circle to incorporate traffic circles instead of stop signs, for better traffic flow. Pedestrian plazas adjacent to the RAC and Admin Bldg will be improved as well.
The New Event Center – This project will construct a new facility between the Stadium Parking Lot and the Stadium complex. The facility is currently planned to have 5,000 fixed seats and house the athletics program, concession areas and hospitality facilities for non-athletics events.
The Fine Arts Building Renovation – This project will renovate space vacated by departments relocating into the new Performing Arts and Humanities Building. The upper floors of the north and south wings will be renovated to accommodate other departments and the building systems will be updated for more efficient operation.
Residence Hall Renovations – This project will renovate West Hills Apartments, the last phase of renovation of the apartment complexes. Hillside and Terrace Apartments were completed in previous phases.
Performing Arts Building, Ph II – This project will provide a new home to the Music, Dance, Ancient Studies and Philosophy departments, as well as providing several general purpose classrooms.
Stormwater Facility (Pond) Renovation – This project will perform upgrades to enhance the function and appearance of the pond. The perimeter walls will be replaced, the pond deepened, and the landscape upgraded to provide a more pleasing gathering space, as well as a more functional stormwater runoff facility.
