Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) Training Required for PHS Investigators

Investigators who are involved in research sponsored the Public Health Service (PHS) at UMBC are required by updated federal regulations to receive FCOI training before the beginning of any new research award (grant or contract) or before the beginning of any new fiscal year of an existing award, with a budget period starting on or after August 24, 2012.

The training discusses the new PHS regulations, the policies and procedures at UMBC for implementing the new regulations, and investigators’ responsibilities for disclosing financial conflicts of interest.

The Office for Research Protections and Compliance (ORPC) provides two venues to meet this requirement. Online training modules, available from CITI, may be accessed at http://www.umbc.edu/research/ORPC/CoI_training.html. The ORPC is also offering in person presentations to satisfy this requirement. Click on http://my.umbc.edu/groups/compliance/events to register. All training will held in the Suite 310 conference room in the Research Park, 5523 Research Park Drive.

Business managers, administrators or researchers who are not involved in PHS-funded research and interested other individuals are welcome to register for the training.

Please contact the ORPC at ext. 5-2737 or coi@umbc.edu if you have any questions or need additional information.
